Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Warriors Group
From the very beginning of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of characters, and a exciting storyline showcasing divine entities, evil spirits, and sinister influences expanding in influence within the urban setting.
Warning: Spoilers for the latest installment of this adventure follow below.
The Warrior Group Revealed
The latest chapter concluded with a major cliffhanger and introduced the premier party of heroes who will branch out from the main group to embark on their independent quest, distinct from the additional parties.
This warrior group consists of Teor Pridesire (brought to life by the voice actor), Thimble (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).
Why Split the Party?
Considering 13 cast members, it was clear from the beginning that having everyone at the same party would be impossible.
This explains, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Overture, connecting the characters’ stories before branching into three separate parties: Soldiers, Schemers, and Explorers.
What Defines the Warrior Group
As described by the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who are drawn to a classically intense combat and conflict-driven narrative style where diplomatic options are scarce.
Initially, figures such as the hesitant healer the cleric might look out of place, but the events of the latest installment make it clear why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.
Why They Must Go
For one thing, the group has a clear idea where to head next after a brutal first encounter with the enemy group.
A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose demise initiated the story’s plot—used the foes for his personal gain, invading Thjazi’s hideout, striking the character, and taking all the enchanted items to auction.
The antagonist then settled his debts and escaped to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, above Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.
Character Drivers
Additionally, each character has a individual motive to exit Dol-Makjar:
- The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, wants retribution.
- Kattigan has experience in the region and warns that it is a hostile environment.
- The warrior and Wicander, having resisted his house’s orders to kill the target and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
- Yet, their reputation as key figures in House Halovar could enable the group enter locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Furthermore, Teor swore a eternal obligation to Wicander for his salvation and will now go with him anywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
In addition, all of them are sought by the authorities that rule the city for a multiple motives, making lingering locally no longer safe:
- The agile adventurer and The character are notorious outlaws.
- The strong figure and The healer turned against the powerful family and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
- Teor is marked for death by the clan.
This means them few options but to journey toward the northern region in search of the traitor.
