Nineteen of the Russian's 21 championships have been achieved on hard courts

A resurgent Medvedev secured his initial title for 882 days with success over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The Russian, a former world number one, has had a challenging period, winning just a single victory at the Grand Slams and suffering a setback at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his service game in specific - resulted in him exiting of the elite rankings and ultimately separating with former trainer Cervara.

Now collaborating with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has consistently progressed in the last few weeks - climaxing in a closely contested three-set win over Frenchman Moutet.

It is his maiden trophy since the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard court from that period of 2023.

Victory also means the Russian has secured twenty-one titles at twenty-one various events.

"For the first time I'm at a competition with my both daughters together, so to secure a trophy is particularly special," said ranked player the champion.

"This victory is in honour of my second daughter her name, because the initial championship I won when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his last six title deciders, featuring in Halle in the past months.

Medvedev's retrieving play style and frequent emotional displays on court had prompted some to question if his capacity to compete at the top level was concluded.

However the athlete has made changes in the past month, making an effort to approach the net and perform assertively, backed up by an enhanced serving game.

The champion came back from a deficit in the first set against the challenging opponent, securing 4 of the last five exchanges to take the lead.

The competitors exchanged breaks in the following set before the challenger, attempting for his first tour title, took control to force a decider.

Moutet rescued 4 initial opportunities in a competitive deciding set before the Russian broke to that score to close out the victory.

Fittingly, the winner secured the win with a rally at the front of the court, with Moutet incapable to control a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
